Volume 4, Lesson 10

The Chosen People Redeemed, Part IV
Redemption By Power (Exodus 14)
The blood of the Passover lamb protected the Israelites from divine justice. Though safe from judgment, he was still in bondage in Egypt. To complete his redemption, divine power was required.
- The redemption of Israel
- Exodus 19:3,4 -- "I bare you on eagle's wings, and brought you unto Myself"
- Exodus 6:6-8 -- "I will bring you out... redeem you with a stretched out arm... and I will bring you in unto the land"
- Deuteronomy 7:8 -- "Brought you out... and redeemed you"
- Deuteronomy 9:26 -- "Redeemed... brought forth out of Egypt"
- Psalm 77:15 -- "With Thine arm redeemed Thy people"
The Christian
- The bondage of a redeemed soul
- Redemption from the power of sin, by the power of God
- The method of deliverance
- The will of the believer must be for deliverance from a sinful nature
- Romans 6:11-13 -- "Reckon [account]... let not... neither yield."
The reckoning requires faith. God says it, therefore it is so. The other two factors are decisions of the will. The believer's will does not deliver him from his sinful nature, but it puts the believer on God's side against natural inclination.
- Victory comes through the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer
- 1Corinthians 6:19 -- "Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost"
- Romans 8:2 -- "The law [authority] of the Spirit... hath made me free"
- Ephesians 4:30 -- "Grieve not the Holy Spirit."
The indwelling Spirit is "grieved" by any sins to which the will consents. The remedy is confession and cleansing (1John 1:9).
- 1Thessalonians 5:19 -- "Quench not the Spirit."
The Spirit is "quenched" by the believer's refusal to obey. The great word for the sinner is "believe," and for the saint it is "yield."
- Redemption from all remains of sin at the second coming of Christ
