1. Three meanings of death
   1. Physical death (separation of the human spirit and soul from the body)
      • 2Corinthians 5:1-8 - "If... earthly house... dissolved... in the body... absent from the body"
      • Ecclesiastes 12:7 - "Dust... to... earth... spirit... unto God"
   2. Spiritual death (separation from God)
      • Genesis 2:17 - "Day that thou eatest... shalt surely die"
      • Ezekiel 18:4 - "The soul that sinneth, it shall die"
      • Ephesians 2:1 - "Dead in trespasses and sins"
      • Ephesians 2:5 - "Even when we were dead"
      • Ephesians 4:18 - "Alienated from the life of God"
   3. The second death (eternal separation from God)
      • Revelation 20:14 - "Lake of fire. This is the second death."
      • Luke 16:22,23 - "Died... hell... in torments"
      • Luke 16:26 - "Great gulf fixed"
2. The cause and history of death (physical and spiritual)
   • Romans 5:12 - "By one man sin entered... and death by sin... passed upon all"
   • Romans 5:14 - "Death reigned"
   • John 11:25,26 - "Though he were dead, yet shall he live... shall never die"
   • Revelation 1:18 - "Have the keys of hell and death"

3. The believer's death

4. Physical death is not the end of consciousness

   • John 11:26 - "Shall never die"
